Who's going to run for the Champaign County countywide offices?
Against Republican County Clerk Mark Shelden?
Against Republican Sheriff Dan Walsh (who was unopposed in 2002)?
Against Republican Treasurer Dan Welch (who was unopposed in 2002)?
Will any of them have tough races?
Thanks, and have a great weekend.

all three will cruise to victories. Each one will receive 55% or more of the vote. The dems are going to have real problems coming up with three candidates for these offices. The news-gazette will slam them for failing to put a full slate. If they can find anyone, they will be Ralph Langenheim type candidates.
Walsh and Welch will cruise, I would say higher than 55%, maybe 58%.
Shelden will have opposition, but no one credible. MS might only get 52-53%, but that will easily be enough.
What will the County Rs, especially Chair Steve Hartman, do to help?
Is this Hartman's last hurrah? If disaster hits, one or more losing, what impact?
Shelden got 58% last time. 52-53 seems low.
Did you see the picture of the Savoy meeting about the MTD the other night on the front page of the paper? Front and center you could see Ralph Langenheim asleep at the meeting. I have watched him on the cable broadcast and he doses off all the time. That is pathetic.
As an R, I would support human cloning if it was limited to Langenhheim and he and his clones ran for every office. I'ld even give one of his clones a law license and run Piland against him. He can keep Urbana, we'll take the rest.
I am convinced now that Shelden will get more than I first said, and should get 58% this time, too.
Speaking of Langenheim, I was at that Savoy meeting. He woke up long enough to ask a question. The public (whom he represents in part of Savoy) was NOT impressed. Oh well, he just went back to sleep. Comfy chairs I guess.

Mark Shelden has a wonderful political mind. Regardless of the county GOP's help, Mark will prevail on his own.
Actually, after following the meeting very closely I asked two questions: (1) Had anybody calculated what the tax rate for a Savoy MTD might be compared with that of the CUMTD. The answer was that they had not, along with a statement on the part of one board member that they were going to finance the operation with grants. (2) Would the Savoy MTD be able to send its vehicles to downtown Champaign and/or the North Prospect shopping areas? The answer, after the village counsel looked up the law was that, yes, they could do so but only with with the permissiion of the CUMTD.
