Blog Roundup

Things that have caught my eye:

  • Democratic State Rep. John Fritchey's thoughts on the budget address:  "I found it very interesting that he touted the state's pension funding and status, which shows that he is not going to concede this issue in the election. Given some independent findings which have been less than favorable as to the state of our pension funding, I'm not sure how this is going to play out."
  • Dan Johnson-Weinberger is hopeful that the budget address will springboard the Governor to re-election.
  • Lots more budget address reactions at Illinoize.
  • Peoria Pundit is really unhappy with the suspension of the DI Editors who published the "anti-Muslim" cartoons last week.  I agree with him, and think this is further evidence that the only speech that is protected on campus is politically correct speech.  Does anyone think, if, in the exact same situation "anti-Christian" cartoons were published, that the editors would have been suspended?
  • Eric Zorn ain't happy either:  "Here's a better idea for Ms. Cory: Suggest the paper publish an extensive special section giving air to all views on this topic, give the editors their jobs back along with an apology for overreacting, then look for something else to do.  Running a newspaper doesn't seem to be your thing."
  • The DI capitulation to political correctness has made the national blog scene, with soon-to-be-fired Editor Acton Gorton appearing on Hugh Hewitt's radio show, and a mention on Instapundit.
  • Gov. Blagojevich is finally going to announce he's running for re-election.  I know, I'm shocked, surprised, stunned too.

DJ Winfo's blog post made me want to be sick.

But it didn't lay bare a claim about Blago contributing more to the pension fund than any other Governor. It appears (and I cannot substantiate this) that he is taking credit for the $10 billion that was borrowed and then contributed to the pension plans as a real contribution. Someone immediately called DJ on it. Keep this in mind when the Dem talking points come out during the campaign. (If you borrow $1,000, then put the money in your savings account, are you really any richer?)
