Buying Kos?

Read this. When I read it, my first thought was, "Ouch."

There's a reason, every time I write about Senator Judy Myers on here, that I disclose that I'm working for her. That's also the reason that I don't often write about the 52nd District race on here, other than to point to articles on Senator Myers' website.

It's not that I don't think I have anything interesting to say about the race. I do.

It's not that I don't think the race is interesting in an of itself. It is perhaps the most fascinating political race I've ever been involved in, both from a practical and an academic sense.
It's that I work for the Myers campaign, and I work on this site for fun. I don't want you to think that I'm being paid to write any of the other stuff that I cover on here. Because if I were, I'd disclose it - that's the least that I can do.

Is that enough? Is that fair?

What is written about Daily Kos in the link you provide could be written about almost any political blog, liberal or conservative. And I actually don't know if I agree with the gist of it. For one, political blogging is too unreliable to be likened to a campaign mailing. While it's doubtful you'd write anything about Judy Myers, Gordy, I've seen you (and others on here) willing to take conservatives or Republicans to task about certain things. It's relatively rare, but it does happen. Believe it or not, I've done the same to Democrats and liberals on my blog. :-) But can you imagine, say, a Naomi Jakobsson campaign mailing that would be in the form of a letter to the constituents, and in the letter she writes things like, "I'm not sure about the vote I cast the other day. On the one hand, it's good because of A, B and C. But on the other hand...." Or what about, "While I typically agree with Speaker Madigan, I must express my dismay over his decision to..." Etc. etc. You get the idea. Blogs, despite their ideology, can be untamed creatures when it comes to politics. That's part of the great personal nature of them.

Just my two cents.

"While it's doubtful you'd write anything about Judy Myers..."

Oops. Insert the word 'negative' between 'anything' and 'about.'

Thanks, Matthew. I have this impression of you as the conscience of the CU bloggers. :-)

The way I read it, someone had a case of Kos envy.

If you're talking about me, you're right. I envy him quite a bit, as he's a smart guy who is making a ton of money doing something he obviously loves. Nothing wrong with that. I just don't like his politics.

"Thanks, Matthew. I have this impression of you as the conscience of the CU bloggers."

Wow. Not sure if that's really the case, but thanks, Gordy! :-)
