Say what you want about Mayor Daley and the City of Chicago, but I bet this drill is something that few other cities in America would be willing to even try, let alone pull off. Heck, I bet New Orleans still doesn't know how to evacuate their city.
Does anyone know if Champaign and/or Urbana have evacuation plans?
The Urbana evacuation plan: Extinguish all cigarettes.
Tax business owners on their way out of town.
Allow six to eight days for bottlenecks to clear at four-way stop at Washington and Vine. Same with Philo and Washington. Same with Florida and Race.
Construct temporary shelter at SW corner of University at Five Points, just in case. That way, there can be the third demolition of property on that site in 15 years.
When it's time to return, tax business owners on their way back into town. Alert people still backed up at 4-way stops, if they are still alive.
Champaign evacuation plan:
Either in study session or approved by zoning board.
"SW corner" should read "NW corner."
