From a press release yesterday, covered in today's News-Gazette (but not online):
State Senate candidate Judy Myers says its time for Illinois to take the lead in the development and use of clean energy technology. At a press conference on Wednesday, the candidate for the 52nd district said she would press for tax incentives to enhance the use of E85 fuel, and increased state funding of projects at the University of Illinois that will reduce exhaust emissions around the Champaign-Urbana area.
Myers, who served in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2002, said she supports tax incentives for gas stations which convert their pumps to E85, or install new equipment. She also favors a $500 tax credit for drivers who purchase E85 and hybrid vehicles.
By creating incentives for selling and purchasing E85, we won't just benefit local farmers, Myers said. We're moving ourselves closer to energy independence from foreign sources. For too long, America has been dependent on foreign energy for its survival. It's time to move past that, and Illinois can play a leading role.ÂÂ
Champaign County Farm Bureau member Kent Krukewitt said Myers' proposal would be helpful for Illinois farmers, who produce the corn that composes the E85 fuel. The Illinois Farm Bureau endorsed Myers this year in the 52nd district State Senate race.
(DISCLOSURE: I work for Senator Judy Myers' campaign. And I drive a hybrid vehicle, so I probably have a conflict of interest writing about this plan.)

Judy just got here clock cleaned in WILL.
Wow. What a show.
That's funny. I watched the same debate, and thought her experience made her clearly the best choice.
Well, I must say, Mr. Frerichs has certainly perfected that "deer in the headlights" look. Did he smile once during the telecast? For someone who has continuosly run for office for the past ten years, you think he could answer at least one question without first feverishly searching through his notes. He couldn't even complete his closing remarks without looking down at his notes. What a goober.
WILL: were we watching the same debate? Tell us how Judy Myers got her clock cleaned. I'm with Gordy and felt she look really good and definitely the best choice.
The one line of the night actually came from the Socialist canddiate when he said about the candidates (paraphrasing) getting money from Michael Madigan, Emil Jones and Mr. hot rod Blago. I have to admit I was laughing pretty good after that remark. It was toward the beginning of the debate. But what cracked me up was that all the people he named were democrats. lol
Even though I don't agree with his stances, that one line he delivered well. I heard he has some support on the U of I campus.
Frerichs didn't look horrendous but he didn't look good either. Jduy answered the questions concisely and very well. As you all know by now, I hope she wins. Now if we can get more people who won't have our state pensions raided, we'll be good.
Yes, Gordy you meany you caused Mikey to attack Judy he couldn't stop himself. This Blog is read by so many people in the 52nd district he thought it was going to cause him to lose the election. He didn't make up what you said this time so I guess I can't tell everyone in town.
