With two people you get a conversation. With three, you start to get the makings of a party. :)
A weekly get-together is no doubt too often for some, but I think we've got enough interest to see a few folks show up 'round happy hour time each week. Some other cool ideas are being tossed around, too, and I'm certainly not claiming any kind of exclusive license on social gatherings. But meanwhile, I had an absolute blast last week and I'm eager to do it again. So for now, let's just call Tuesdays blogger night at MOM's, and maybe some of those other ideas will brew up along the way, too.
Cheers!

I will be there until around 5:45 Wayward and former ucimc if you just want to get together.
I can't be there, but I'll move this to front so more people can see it.
I'll be there from 5 until 5:45. Wayward, will you be there?
Of course everyone should come we just want to get the ball rolling and have something to talk about.
Looks like Queen has found a new way of bringing in people to the bars, instead of crying about the smoking ban. Cheers.
OK, I'll try to make it, though 5 is earlier than I usually leave work. (I'll just tell my boss.)
Why, Anon 10:13, you underestimate my ambition. I thought it was painfully transparent that my true motivation is to become the Dorothy Parker of Champaign. Of dubious substance myself, but having an uncanny ability to surround myself with great minds and fascinating characters. ;)
"Looks like Queen has found a new way of bringing in people to the bars, instead of crying about the smoking ban."
Or we could come to your house, if you tell us who you are.

She's not going to make much money off me, unfortunately--I'm a teetotaler.
fascinating characters. ;) I might fit the fascinating character discription in a weird sort of way. So I guess I am still in. She doesn't mind teetotaler's. This should be fun again thanks for getting things going Anon.
Oh yeah, were's Kevin and Laura?
It was really great meeting everyone this afternoon! As a recovering UCIMC junkie, it was very therapeutic to unburden the depths of depravity I had sunk to. I didn't tell the complete story as to why I left UCIMC, but it's a good start on the road to recovery. Thanks for showing up, Wayward! Nice to meet you Ractivist, Run4cvrlib, and Queen of Memphis! There were a couple of other people whose names I didn't catch...
Former, It was nice to meet you and talk to you and Wayward about the happenings at the UCIMC. The Queen was wonderful and Ractivist we will be talking. That was Todd and Mark. We should start thinking about the next Blogger bash. I know there are more people out there that just have to get out more.
I was, unfortunately called into work last night and therefore dissapointed that I was not able to attend the blogger happy hour. Also, I have been blessed by Insight to have had three service techs, in as many weeks, come to the house to get me back online, so I couldn't post anything saying I wouldn't be there. I had heard that service was sketchy through them (particlarly in Urbana), but this is starting to get rediculous. Don't they understand that the porn must flow? Bastards.
Hopefully I'll see you all next week

Haha, that would have been an interesting story to hear. Did it involve more verbose but incoherent rants from ML?
"Oh yeah, were's Kevin and Laura?"
Sadly, not there. With a nine (soon to be ten) year old daughter at home, our evenings out as an adult couple are the exception, rather than the rule. This will no doubt get worse as our daughter's softball season starts, and Laura and I are pressed into coaching duties.
I am still optimistic about having one or the other of us able to make it out on the occasional Tuesday (unless, as Laura says, it conflicts with our anarchists' meeting...)

Yes, it's stuff that you probably saw on the imc-web list sometime last fall (IIRC :-). I took an extremely unpopular stance on a particular issue on the old website (just before the new website opened up), was savaged by anonymous posters on the site itself, and then by ML on the imc-web list. He hinted darkly that I would be banned from the website if I persisted, and perhaps even expelled from the IMC. He basically said (paraphrasing) that the burden of proof was on me to prove that I'm not an evil, hateful person. Just recalling this is reopening old wounds.

Oh yeah, I remember that, but wading through entire ML emails is sort of headache-inducing so I just skimmed them at the time. His diatribes usually make me feel like I'm being buried in bullshit.
Heh, I tripped off some earlier drama last month after I suggested that we could have a "State's Attorney/Police Fan Fiction Contest" on UCIMC, and maybe some of the cops who read the site for entertainment could be judges. ML had a fit and demanded that I take it down immediately. (I was sort of disappointed, since I was going to enter a version of "The Three Bears" where the cops investigate a burglary at the bears' house and discover that there are multiple arrest warrants out for Goldilocks.)

I think we need to get T-shirts that say, "UCIMC Thought Criminal."

I can wear that shirt on the days I'm not wearing my "IP Knuckle Dragger" t-shirt, LOL.
I remember your fiction contest on UCIMC, and I was hoping to see entries but never did. When the thread disappeared, I thought that was because it had simply fallen off the page. I didn't know that he asked you to remove it, and labeled you a troll to boot! My sympathies. My feelings used to be hurt by that kind of stuff, but now I have more of a sense of incredulity.

Honestly, it's not that big a deal. This sounds cold and Machiavellian, but one survival skill you learn in the real world is a sense of who has real power and who doesn't. For example, if ML doesn't like something you post, how much impact will it really have on you? Probably not much. Why was UCIMC dramarama a problem for me? Simply because it was draining and distracting, and I wanted to focus on other things. ML's rants weren't that upsetting, but on the other hand, it wasn't like I was being paid to deal with him. So it seemed reasonable to make better choices about how I spent my time.
