Urbana Update

in

Urbana Ward 7 Councilwoman Lynne Barnes sent this to her email list today - looks like there are some interesting meetings coming up in our fair city in the near future - especially the Orchard Downs redevelopment.

Hi.....here are some tidbits of information and opportunities.

1.  This Wednesday night....there will be an important information meeting regarding Orchards Downs.  I hope many of you can attend.  We are down to two developers:  Vermilion/Fox/Atkins and Devonshire Development LLC.  The Beckman Auditorium is located on the first floor, west end of the building. Parking is available in the structure east of Beckman or on the street. This remains an exciting project for the city of Urbana.

From Dr. Fred Coleman III, Facilities and Services, UIUC.

The Master Developer Candidate's Development Proposal Presentation to the public will be on May 2, 2007 from 5:30-8:00 pm in the Beckman Institute Auditorium. Each master developer candidate team will have 45  minutes to give their presentation. The public will have about 45 minutes to ask questions after the last presenter. The Public Review of Master Developer Candidate Development Proposal Plans will take place on May 16, 2007 from 5:30-8:00 pm in the Alice Campbell Alumni Center Ballroom. Exhibits of Master Developer Candidate Development Proposal Plans are for the public to obtain a close inspection of proposed development plans and engage attending team members in discussions on respective proposed development plans. This activity was previously identified as Open House #2 on previous project schedules.

3.  Update on Meijer:

Meijer will be going to a brand new store model for the Urbana location that is still in development stages - will be of similar quality to what was previously proposed.  This new model will have a somewhat smaller footprint, but will allow for expansions.  All other site improvements will remain the same.  The new model will push back the opening date from approximately April 08 to August 08.  Construction of the site improvements will not be affected.

I notice there is no mention of Carle's plans for Crystal Lake Park & King School neighborhoods.  I guess these neighborhoods' access to the rest of the City does not affect Lynn Barnes & Ward 7 residents.  Up here in the north end residents are very concerned about Carle's plans to close several more of our neighborhood streets and bulldoze several dozen more houses for more parking lots.
