That Committee hearing and vote is from last week.

The current status of the bill is linked in the post above.  It's not been called for a vote yet today, but I've been told that it probably will be, and I imagine it'll pass.

Glad to be in a Dem-controlled state, where every problem can and will be solved with government involvement, like it or not.

How about this?  Champaign should repeal the ban, even if the State passes this.  Follow thru on your campaign and get it off the books.  Who knows what will happen in the future.

Seconded.

That'd be a huge waste of public government time.

The one responsible act: Leave the ban in place, and prepare for the state to enact a ban. Then be ready. Don't make a joke out of the whole affair by repealing a ban, just to see another one enacted.

To be honest, I think that getting something controversial pushed through City Council takes a certain amount of time and energy, and it'd probably be more practical to wait and see what the state does.

why would it be controversial?  Mayor, Feinen, Mcintosh, Feinen and Foster - that is 5 votes.  Put it up, and vote it.  Who is going to rally to oppose the elimination of a ban that is being covered by the statewide ban anyway?  It would take 60 seconds.

Hey, if you don't like it, you're more than welcome to move/go somewhere else that allows what you want :)

Anon:

Although I enjoy it when that argument gets turned back onto the HSQDs, they NEVER get it. They don't grasp the dichotomy.

I am considering it.

Wenalway is now a ... HSQD!

Look on the bright side--the smoking issue mobilized voters and we moved the City Council towards a more business-oriented, less restrictive council--not a bad result.

The ban's been in effect in Champaign for 3 months; I hardly consider that to be "status quo."

But you keep tryin', while you can no longer smoke in bars, and the Chief is no more, and thus and so ...

Let's see what happens when a NO Real-Life Experience Revolutionary and a Big Mouth " ALL bark and no bite, Worlds biggest cheap-ass slum-lord" get in power...

Oh WAIT, probably not so different....

Sorry IP, warning expected.

You won't be running my campaign any time soon.

Warning delivered.

I know frustrations are high - please keep the emotions in check as much as you can.

It would be more convenient if you would move north of I-80 where people don't mind being told what to do. This is downstate. We enjoy having control of our own lives.

The enforcement of this ban is going to be interesting in areas like Ford County, where there is only the Republican and Libertarian party. When they prohibit smoking in Paxton bars, I'll know this is for real.

I seriously got an "Urbana Bozo" T-shirt from the guy at Farmer's Market, but since I used to work in the same building as Fuest, it didn't seem like a good idea to wear it to work.
