Racing To Jump Off A Cliff

I'm starting to think that the only one thing standing between national Republicans and complete electoral disaster in 2008 is the Democrats.

Why is it, given that our national politics are clearly so challenging right now, that most of the leading figures of both political parties just seem so unworthy of the challenge?

It's certainly looking like the Daily Show won't be running short on material either way.  At least we can have a good laugh while everything goes to hell.

Who was it that said "never get in your opponent's way when they're screwing up"??  I could be paraphrasing the quote (or just straight up butchering it)...

as to the Daily Show, i've heard a couple of times Jon Stewart say something to the effect of "we'll make just as much fun of the democrats, if the dems win the White House".  I find his show, and especially him reading the news headlines, to be quite funny and wickedly satirical...be nice to see if he would skewer a Democrat.

(seems like a bad day for me to remember quotes :) )

"Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right. here I am, stuck in the middle ..."

McCain has gone flaky, Rudy is a RINO, Thompson can't afford the pay cut, and the rest are nobodies. Newt? Sure, he'll get elected. Mitt? Granpa had too many wives.

Obama is cute but an empty suit, Hillary is, well, she's Hillary, John Edwards? Please. Haircuts don't make you somebody. Al Gore? Igor has a better chance.

What do all these people have in common? More ego than sense,

I'd take Richie Daley for someone who knows how to make a city work, and he's plenty conservative, too, except his stance on the 2nd Amendment. I can live with that.

Or maybe Jim Edgar, he's still young enough and plenty liberal (except that darn 2nd Amendment, but I can live with him being against  that.)

It would be a VERY interesting race, conservative, proven Democratic mayor vs proven, liberal Republican governor, but it's all in my dreams.

For now, I'll hold my nose and vote for the least offensive person. Otherwise I can't complain.

The Daily Show and Capitol Steps are the two reasons I can still stomach most politicians regardless of party affiliation.
