FOIA/Open Meetings Seminar

Tonight, at 6:00 pm, at the Urbana Civic Center, Terry Mutchler will be conducting a seminar on the Open Meetings and Freedom of Information Acts.  It is open to the public and she'll be taking questions as well.  Hope to see you there.

Mark, the meeting was very informative.  Thanks for putting it together.  I hope you'll have it broadcast on public access, in addition to making it available on your website.  There was a lot of useful information there, for public officials and for people wanting to know what information is available and accessible.  Thank you.

Any chance of putting it online - maybe Google video or something?  (I could probably help with digitizing and uploading it if need be.)

I enjoyed the presentation as well.  It was very informative in a general way and Terry Mutchler was great.  The self-serving questions from the Wyman-Kirchner contingent got a little old though.  I know they have the right to be there, and of course they can ask any questions as well, but it would seem to me that they should have already been able to figure out the answers to the questions they had (they were pretty simple questions after all)  or they certainly could have hit the website or called the AG office directly.

I congratulate Abner Parafin if he already knew that minutes of public meetings as well as the people other than the elected officials who go into closed meetings have to be recorded.  I didn't know that, and from watching the actions of public bodies, they obviously didn't know that either, since at least one city council doesn't record that non-elected officials go into the closed meetings or twhat their identities are.

That answer from Terry Mutchler, as well as her other answers to my questions and other people's questions were very helpful.  I hope that the video is viewed widelyl.  Maybe then others, including those who advise public bodies on what is needed to stay legal, will have the information they need.

Ruth, we are planning on digitizing the video and making it available.  I'll look into public access which is an excellent idea.
