Mahomet Issues Liquor License

in

I wish we had a blogger who would cover Mahomet issues more.  This liquor license story is a good example:

The village of Mahomet has awarded its first liquor license since voters approved alcohol sales in an April referendum.

Brooks Marsh, the owner of Mahomet IGA, received Mahomet's first liquor license Tuesday afternoon. However, he's not sure how soon his store will sell alcohol.

How many licenses will be issued in all?  How many classes?

How many licenses?  Initial interest was higher than the village expected.

How many classes?  Pretty much all of them.  There were only 2 major restrictions put in place.

1.  There is a downtown area where Class A license holders will not be allowed.

2.  Class A license holders will be required to have sales of at least 25% in food - the idea being to make a corner tavern selling beer and pickle eggs illegal.  This may keep a bar or two on the outskirts from being annexed into the village.

Yea you wouldnt want downtown to prosper. It might become a little Champaign. I mean who would want a bunch of people downrown then you will have real problems like parking. and all the tav dollers you would have to find somthing to do with.

You can have restaurant liquor license downtown, just not a bar (class A) license.

Anon... obviously if they want their downtown to prosper they need a 100,000 dollar fountain.
