Unintentional Comedy

Try not to laugh out loud when reading this:

"My goal in life has been to be a U.S. congressman," Oberweis, 61, said after a rally at the North Aurora plant for his namesake boutique dairy. "The fact that I was running for the Senate was really an accident -- partly caused by Denny Hastert, by the way, who asked me to get involved at that time."

Oberweis finished second for the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate in 2002, despite Hastert's endorsement, and in 2004. The following election, he finished second in his bid for the 2006 Republican nomination for governor. In those three elections, he spent nearly $7 million of his own money, including more than $3.3 million in the primary for governor.

He said his run for Congress was not an effort to chalk up a potentially easier win to build political credibility for a possible run for governor in 2010.

Of course he always wanted to be a Congressman - that's why he's run for the Senate twice and Governor once.  i wonder how long it will take for him to start running ads attacking other Republicans?

He should stick to the dairy business! We don't need any more crooks from north of I-80!!!  Republician or Democrat.

Boggle.

To my knowledge, nobody has alleged Oberweis is a crook.

I think the point was that they're all crooks north of I-80.  Unfortunately for Gregg, there aren't many other choices for that district.

I wonder if Hastert put anything in writing to Oberweis.  That would be funny.  Like many Republicans, I just want Obie to go away, if that means winning this election and staying in Congress, so be it.  At least he won't be bothering me too soon.

Your right IP no one has accused Oberweis of anything. But after living in Illinois all my life I'm just used to seeing these politicians say one thing and do something else. Anyone here remember William J. Scott??, Dan Walker?, Otto Kerner?,  Paul Powell?, Dan Rostenkowski?, Mel Reynolds?, and just recently Gov. George Ryan. and I hope soon the misfit that the people of the State of Illinois elected not only once but twice to set in the Governors chair will be among those in the hall of shame that is is Illinos politics. No wonder nobody shows up on election day! If thats all they can scrape up to run.

5 outta 6 ain't bad - Scott, Kerner, Powell, Rostenkowski, Reynolds and Ryan were all convicted of illegal actions that took place while an elected offical. Dan Walker's conviction stemmed from his role in the operation of a Savings & Loan Association after he was voted out of office.

Actually Greg was correct.....Kerner took some bribe money over Arlington Race track,,,,of course it may have come out after he was a judge appointed by LBJ>

Walker says in his book "The Maverick and the Machine" "Big"  Jim Thompson was behind Walkers downfall, Thompson had pull with the Federal Dist. Attorney in Chicago. The walker deal was the same kind of loan Neil Bush got, But it was personal with Thompson, I used to call Thompson a friend of mine, but after this free legal representation from  His firm {Winston & Strawn}  for now Convicted Federal Felon George Ryan, it's hard to respect anyone like that. Dan Webb the former Federal prosecutor[ who defended Ryan] is in the same class as Thompson, "Bottom Feeders" both of them!

What's with "Boggle" in nearly every thread?

"What's with "Boggle" in nearly every thread?"

In nearly every thread, I find some comment that is so strange and so outlandish that it boggles my mind.

Maybe we can come up with some kind of game about corrupt politics in Illinois and call it Boggle--I think there's already a game called Boggle, but it's probably not as much fun.
