PoliticalBase.com has a great new site that maps Federal political contributions onto google maps. You can search by race type, candidate, party, ZIP, and a bunch of other stuff and then embed the maps or tables in a blog post.  For example, here's all the 2008 Presidential donations for ZIP Code 61820:

This is cool stuff - as voters and citizens and bloggers, we need more tools like this and less crappy, heavy-handed unconstitutional regulations like McCain-Feingold.

Am I the only one surprised by the large number amount of Romney donations?

Romney just did a fundraiser here in Champaign.

I think he's the only candidate to have actually been here so far.

I just checked it out. It's cool, but the site has a lot of errors, too. It had my profession wrong, for example, and it has my sister listed at an address she hasn't lived at in ten years. It also has no clue what she does for a living, although she owns a company here in town. Does anyone know where this information comes from?

"It also has no clue what she does for a living, although she owns a company here in town. Does anyone know where this information comes from?"

It comes from the disclosures filed by the campaigns themselves - so if they listed an occupation/employer, that data will be included, but if the campaigns don't include something, or have something wrong, those errors get passed through.

Pres. White gave $1,000 to Obama. Just look at 61801, almost all professors... all to the dems. so diverse. It's fun counting how few professors give to Republicans and how many give to Democrats. I guess they vote Dem because they are very lerned and open minded.

Or perhaps they vote Dem because they feel that the Democratic candidates that they are giving their money to represent them better than the Republican candidates do? Just a guess.

Accurate guess, the left does a great job supporting each other, be interesting to see the media moguls contributions to finish off the trilogy.

Pres. White may understand that just about everyone in Illinois that is a democrat is supporting Obama and wants to show support so the U of I gets support from the democrats that run the state, or he just likes him.

Very interesting. I'm no longer so sure that my mom would want me to eat at Jimmy John's.

And it's nice to have one more reason to stay the heck out of those Carlosbars downtown.

I'm opposed to any database that allows searches based on race. Are you kidding me? What's next, a database with a religion field?

I don't think he means race as in race but race as in type of race - president, senator, representative.......
