Rantoul Village Administrator Resigns

in

This happened Friday.

The village board asked for Johnston's resignation following a closed session Wednesday evening to discuss personnel, Williams said. He said that he presented Johnston, who has served since September 2004, with the board's concerns on Thursday, and Johnston responded with his letter on Friday.

"This will afford David the opportunity to explore other ventures," Williams said.

Johnston's departure comes two weeks after village board members publicly expressed concerns over proposed sweeping changes to the village's zoning ordinance that Johnston had supported. Those changes set minimum standards on how the exterior of new buildings should look.

"David and I agree that there are some philosophical differences that have become very apparent lately between himself and the board," Williams said. "It was decided that the best way to resolve this situation would be through an amicable resignation."

Ah, another job Bruce Walden can apply for.

Bruce is working at UI now. I am sure he appreciates your concern though.

I drove up to Rantoul and ate breakfast at the Century cafe, yesterday,,,,a good place to go to pick up the "man on the street" type of news.  It appears Mr. Johnston also had a serious dust-up with the town council for putting in a brand new and expensive computer system,,,,hiring a new IT person,,,,then having to bring in an outside contactor to get the system working,  Too me that is not so unusual when setting up a brand new system, but I was told it upset some of the council. so maybe what that tells me,is when they are looking for excuses to have someone leave a job, they can find just about anything. I am sure Mr. Johnston will find a good job elsewhere,,,,,Rantoul would be a very tough job to take on for anyone,

Dave Johnston was the best thing that ever happened to Rantoul.  Shame on Mayor Neal Williams for doing this.  It is short sighted and Rantoul will now be stuck with trying to hire someone dumb enough to walk into a job where no one can please the Mayor.

Whoever they hire now will not last one year.

Dave Johnston was the WORST thing to happen to Rantoul in years.  He was incredibly disorganized, too good to meet with citizens, too good to show up at any Rantoul events beyond the politically correct events, too good to personnally deal with Village employees and created his own undoing. You'll have to check the budget pages of Rantoul's web site (which is in a state of disrepair) and see for yourself -- but the Village budget grew tremeoundously in his tenure, his re-organization of a couple departments was ill-fated and created a huge waste of taxpayer dollars, over 500 jobs were lost during the past year AND with no indication that Rantoul has businessess on a waiting list to re-locate to Rantoul, he was trying to institute unheard of tough new building standards and landscaping standards...just to make sure that NO one ever looked at Rantoul as a possibility for a business.  An unbelievable number of businesses and long-time residents left the town during his tenure ... unfortunately, he is just the tip of the iceberg with Rantoul's problems.  It's time for a new mayor and several new trustees to get Rantoul into the positive column of any newspaper!  Yes, Rantoul is a tough job, but it will be to the benefit of all the communities surrounding it to get a decent administrator who TRULY cares about Rantoul!

This has nothing to do with a new computer system.  Lets face the facts.  Rantoul has to go to a new computer system due to the fact that their previous IT manager 2 years ago didn't know what he was doing.  That is the same thing for every other place he has touched.  The rantoul computer systems were down more than up.  Anyone that has to have all users shutdown their pcs until a problem is fixed should be fired and doesn't belong in IT all together.  Lets face it the guy that got moved hasn't been able to land a job anywhere else in IT has he?  From what I have heard is no.  And the Rantoul systems are more stable than ever.  The outside contractor is in to fix that last step of this mess.  The environment was so bad that they had to build a new one.  No one within this city knows how to set up what the village will have.  Thats a fact.  If they are blaming it on IT they are all wrong.

NO one was blaming it on IT,,,,,,just that some of the council was upset with expense of the new system,,,and stuff thanks for filling in the holes,,,,,,,,those old guys at the Century cant be expected to know all of the details,,,,,but at least I got someone in the know to respond,,thanks

Word on the street is that the new IT manager doesnt know which end is up.  Heard he was in lots of trouble before this position and at this position before he "toke" over so has axe to grind...no doubt earlier post is from him.

Well, if it was, he at least can find the internet:)  If nothing else:)

kind of gave away who 1:24 poster is when you said "this mess" - must be current IT guy still grinding

ummm,,,,can you spell libel mr 1.24,,,,/?

Mr. 1:24

Although Dave Johnston was an ok guy, I heard he had issues needing attention. Also, as a co-worker of your past IT Manager, I interpret your post as having a bone to pick. Not a good professional quality. You aren't well educated in covering your tracks either.

Wow.......an IT guy blaming someone else for his ignorance :)

To "let's face the facts" 1:24

First...attacking a colleague or constituent in a blog/open forum displays your lack of couth or professionalism. Second…I’m glad I’m not your employer and have to endure your brash approach to making yourself appear Godly. Good luck with your future IT endeavors…………..you will need it!

1:24 arrogance, Networks come in many flavors. In the computer world it’s convenient and easy to advocate change and persuade others that may be less knowledgeable than you. Not exactly an Einstein approach but if it works………hey go for it.

I don't need to cover my tracks. I am a past employee for the village. I must say that I was happy to get out of there and see the other guy moved after I left. He is the reason I left. I have better things to do than this. 1.24

I thought Bruce was working at City of Champaign.

Why can't Champaign be so lucky as Rantoooool? Carter has to go.

man--1:24 thats the reason I left IT, guy comes in,,has no education & knows just a few things or another system, but can convince and becomes network bullly cuz he cant get another job

To 1:24

Education? I know the IT Manager had a two year degree (I attended college with him) and now understand he has his bachelors of science degree. Lighten up dude "cuz" I think you are a disgruntled, insecure and uneducated employee: )

Well I have a masters. Who would give him a degree.

I heard he tried to fix a fire truck.
