From the NG:
Savoy voters decided by an overwhelming majority Tuesday to approve a half-cent sales tax increase.
The results ended with 74 percent of the voters approving the increase and 26 percent opposed. Also, 73 people, who participated in the voting, did not vote on the ballot question.
Savoy shoppers will see the sales tax increase from 6.5 to 7 percent starting April 1.

The new sales tax must be to pay for Savoy's infrastructures like police and fire services, water, power, public schools, and mass transit. Oh wait, Champaign pays and/or provides all of that. Tolono provides the library.
It appears this sales tax increase is paying for some road construction and area beautification. Whoopee.
"The new sales tax must be to pay for Savoy's infrastructures like police and fire services, water, power, public schools, and mass transit. Oh wait, Champaign pays and/or provides all of that."
You are absolutely wrong. Your hatred of all things Savoy is clouding your reality, and causing you to state obvious lies:
So, by my count, the City of Champaign is "paying for and/or providing" none of those services for the Village of Savoy, and Champaign residents are paying the exact same property tax rates to the shared districts as Savoy residents. Or do you have some other magical defintion of pays for and/or provides?
I'm really, really tired of this obviously false "Savoy is mooching" BS. Any other lies you'd like to try today?
Thank you IP for your clarification. I read this blog site and am astounded by the deliberate misinformation and irrational bias against Savoy. I say deliberate because these things have been explained time and again. I think Savoy pays over 60% of the library tax for that library district even though the library isn't in Savoy. Not exactly mooching. And who really thinks Champaign leaders would let another governmental entity mooch? No way.
"hate"? "Lies"? ouch, Gordy.
As so often goes my attempts at humor: utter failure.
Yes, Savoy gets utilities from private companies and compensates Champaign for their services appropriately
You can put the leash back on the dogs. I can understand the snappiness. Things have gotten a little mean around here.
But I'm not one of the frothing legions of hate mongering yahoos waving their ron paul signs. I have no hatred for Savoy. Too many other things already get my dander up, and local pissing contests are not on my list.
""hate"? "Lies"? ouch, Gordy.

Jonathan,
Sorry for my snippiness - I thought the comment was from our dear old friend "anonymous."
And I retract my accusation in light of your explanation. I shouldn't post when I'm angry or tired, and I'm both today.
Peace? :-)
Sleep deprivation is heck, ain't it? :-)
I was off base in my humor anyway, and got called on it.
No anger over here.
Excellent.
I've been following your firearm posts on your blog for the past few months. You've been on a roll.
Even though he *did* apologize, it just goes to show that you can always bet on at least one Savoy basher in the group.
Sorry Jonathan, but your post was nothing but a cheap shot, and as IP pointed out, was filled with a bunch of BS.
I'll compare the Unit 4 line item of my property tax bill to any of those with a Champaign address any day.
I agree with AnF. I don't know how anyone could really think Jonathan's post was a joke or tongue in cheek. Jonathan, you need to put in more hints. And don't give up your day job.
:)
