ewjohnson: banned

ewjohnson is now banned from IlliniPundit.com.  His trolling tonight, despite my requests that he control himself, was the last straw.

Any attempts by him to post or comment, under his username or another username or anonymously, will be removed.  If you see a post or comment from him, please ignore it until I can get around to deleting it.  Responses to his comments and posts will also be removed.  He's here seeking attention, and he will not get it.

Thank you, and I'm sorry that it's come to this.  Please share feedback or objections in comments or via email.

He will not be missed.

You still suck.

Nothing like constructive criticism.

Most of the " Anons" should be next!  I don't know how you can tell them apart? other than the time they post. You IP, have the ip addresses maybe you can do something about them?, I have had enough of the "Hit and run" posting, I have not, and plan not to respond to any more of that kind of posting. I realize some anonymous posters want  to remain anonymous, for one reason or another, but the vicious posting has gotten out of control, I used to post anonymous when I first heard of IP, but in order to know who I was responding to I use a screen name Gregg, that is my real name. Greg G.  IP you can verify this. You anons want to attack someone, do it else where!!!

"I have not, and plan not to respond to any more of that kind of posting."

If you and everyone else stopped responding to it, they'd stop doing it.

And then we could all enjoy the many anonymous comments which are actually constructive and substantive.

I haven't been posting here much over the past several months. Partly due to time constraints, but largely due to someone(s) who jumps to the attack whenever my name appears. Not ew (I never interacted with him), but generally someone without a "handle" here. My most recent "test" to see if it was safe for me to post was to a thread that was already approaching a train wreck. So when it resulted in IP having to close the thread, I didn't feel as bad about it as if it had been, say, a blog about taxes.

It doesn't hurt my feelings on a personal level to be thusly attacked. I'm a bona fide grown-up. I'm quite comfortable in my own skin, I know who I am and what I'm about, and I know that folks who actually know me won't change their opinions based on such unwarranted hostility. But it does make me feel bad to see my participation consistently result in attempts to hijack a thread and turn it into a nasty exchange about me and/or our business.

That being said, I'm not going away. I'm just being a little quiet here.

And I have a suggestion and offer for IP.  Back in caveman days, it was common practice in online forums to post some sort of guidelines for acceptable communication. Falling under the general label of "netiquette," the Internet Engineering Task Force saw civility in discourse as an important enough concept to post an informational RFC back in 1995 (RFC 1855, if you want to take a peek).

My suggestion: in the midst of all the work IP will be doing with the Drupal upgrade and changing up a few things here and there, perhaps adding a conversational rules/netiquette section would be in order?  It's not going to stop the trolls, but it might put just a little more teeth (and a little less argument) in the "your comment is out of order" department.

And my offer:  folks tell me I'm not too bad with the written language. I would be happy to put some time into developing such guidelines for this blog, working with IP, of course, to make sure it conveys the nature of dialog he wants to encourage. But since it's my idea, I figure it's only fair I offer to put in the work for it.

I think that's a great idea.  Would you be willing to come up with a draft for me to look at?

Queen, I've been meaning to stop by MoM soon and would be happy to help.

Cool! That would be great! I think we could have some good geek-style fun with this.

Queen predicts two versions emerging from this collaberative effort: one for real and one purely for our own amusement...

A non alcoholic version and a leaded version, so to speak, hey Queen, see you when the weather breaks......tell the old man I'll be over to see him.....It's that time o year.
