I cast my vote, perchance, as I think right; but I am not vitally concerned that that right should prevail.I am willing to leave it to the majority. Its obligation, therefore, never exceeds that of expediency. Even voting for the right is doing nothing for it. It is only expressing to men feebly your desire that it should prevail. A wise man will not leave the right to the mercy of chance, nor wish it to prevail through the power of the majority. There is but little virtue in the action of masses of men... - some crazy from the extreme right wing
If they want to be effective with the board of trustees, merely voting will do nothing at all. They will have to find a way to get hold of the BoT where it hurts.

Actually, if they want to reverse this decision, they first need to convince the NCAA (good luck - the NCAA is among the least accountable and responsive organizations in America). Once they convince the NCAA, then they need to convince the UI BoT.
So 79% of those who care enough about this issue to vote say UIUC should bring back the chief. In actuality, 7718 of 31472 is ~24% of the student body. It gets worse if you factor in graduate student (7718 of 42728 is ~18%) who usually don't care at all. Had this gone the other way (as in 79% voting to not reinstate) this would be the first thing the pro-chief camp would have spouted. Basically, less than a quarter of the student body cares about this at all. Hardly a mandate or a demand from the students, I would say. Sounds like the chief is a major non-issue for the student body, so can we put this to bed yet?

Arvid,
Interesting figures, and I agree with the concept of your theory, although I always knew removal of the Chief was by the manority.
Do me a favor and apply your same figure to the election that elected mayor Prussing.
To that end, I am, and shall always remain;
