Server Migration Complete

IP.com has migrated to our new server, about 24 hours earlier than I'd planned.

You shouldn't notice any difference other than improved speed and reliability, hopefully.  I've got a couple more images from this week's Friday Funnies that I need to re-upload, but everything else appears to have made the move.  Please let me know if you have any problems or notice anything unusual.

If this server seems to be working well, in a week or so I'm going to play around with upgrading the site's software to Drupal 6.1.

Have a great Easter.

UPDATE: The remaining images have uploaded, so everything should appear exactly as it was.  Please let me know any feedback you have.  Thanks.

What advantage does 6.1 have ?

Does 6.1 correct any of the following known bugs:

(i) does not correctly allow the sorting of comments

(ii) does not always allow a poster to correct non-anonymous comments.

MJF... it still seems to have a bug in the wysiwyg editor with the built in firefox spellchecker... but you can always click "source" in the upper left hand corner and it still works just fine... though intermingled with html splatter.

6.1 should fix the comment sorting bug, the scheduling problems, and give us a little more stability and customizeability.

Unregistered users, if I continue to allow them to comment at all, will never be allowed to go back and edit their own comments.  I'm just not willing to allow them to do that.

6.1 should also give us a few more options for WYSIWYG editors, perhaps even including one that includes a spell checker.

Yup I can spell and have bad grammer over here just as I did over there or am I over there, now you have me confused.

DNS is still updating for some people, so that when they try to go to illinipundit.com it still takes them to the old server.

These things sort themselves out over 24-48 hours as Teh Internets learn where IP.com is now located.

FYI...

I can get to the site from work, (UIUC internet connection), but my I am unable to load the site from my AT&T dsl connection at home, (as of Sunday 3/30).  I tried clearing my cache, but it still won't load.

That's odd.  I had DNS problems for the first few days, which prevented a number of people from accessing, but we've gotten those straightened out, as you can see here.

Try accessing it at http://64.191.40.154 from home and see if that works.  If it does, then I've still got another DNS problem to solve.

I've had problems accessing the site off and on ever since the upgrade via my ATT DSL.
The site was unavailable for several hours on Saturday evening, then finally available with me taking no action on my own (like flushdns or rebooting modem).
The next time the site is unavailable I'll try the IP address and let you know.

I took it down for a few hours Saturday evening to do some maintenance, thinking that nobody would be reading it at that time.  :-)

Our DNS problems should be fixed.  That's what my testing indicates, my tech people are telling me, and what the increased traffic on the visitor logs is affirming.  If anyone is having problems, though, I'd like to know about it just to be sure.

Thanks.

That would explain the problem I had accessing the site on Saturday evening.  I did not have any problems Sunday or today so it looks like the DNS problems may be resolved. Thank you.

Where did the servers winter?

IlliniPundit's picture

The server wintered in Australia.

But now it's in Chicago.
