UI Extensions Cut

Pantagraph:

Gov. Rod Blagojevich has put another 450 jobs on the chopping block as part of his latest budget feud with lawmakers.

Workers at the University of Illinois Extension program have been told there may not be money to pay them after May 1 because the governor is threatening to withhold an estimated $18 million.

The Extension serves an estimated 2.5 million residents each year, including nearly 300,000 youths who take part in 4-H programs. It has 77 offices located in Central Illinois and throughout the state.

I bet he already gave the money to the Chicago State University Extension program.

Ironically, in this case, that might be a better investment.

Now suprising, the STATE has a lot more funding priorities.  Take a look at the link...and see what NAOMI doesn't see a problem spending money on:

www.illinoispolicyinstitute.com....click on the PORK LINK:  A few highlights:

124$2,000 to San Bun for an apprenticeship in Cambodian music;

$1,000 to Mary Leandra Baker for an apprenticeship in traditional Irish music;

$1,000 to Sheila I. Alegria for an apprenticeship in Guatemalan marimba music;

$2,000 to Beixing Xiang for an apprenticeship in Chinese erhu music; $2,000 to Magdalena Solarz

for an apprenticeship in Polish folk dance;

Imagine a politician who gave up his campaign contributions/war chest to sustain his state.  That gesture would win reelection.  That gesture will never happen.

His fall will be great!  Perhaps that is why he is so blatant today, knowing what tomorrow holds.  He is lucky public stonings have been outlawed at least for now.  Does fundamentalist muslim law allow this still??

Now, I'm all for cutting spending, but that's not what this is about.  He's threatening a program that is near and dear to the hearts of his political enemies in order to get them to give him more money to spend on his own pet programs.  "Give me what I want, or the puppy dies."

Why is he not proposing across-the-board cuts, or offering to give up something he holds dear?

I hope they get the recall provision implemented before the Rezko trial brings him down, so we can vote him out before he goes to jail (and so he can't use the power of the throne to defend himself).

See the Academy, where we start at pretension and never look back.

I wonder if Blago senses he's likely to go down, and he's getting openly vindictive.

I think Speaker Madigan's moves from the past few weeks are making Blagojevich nervous.

Don't blame me, I voted Green.

Yeah, ractivist, too bad you can't stone him to death. AS I recall, Jesus was all for that when they caught that lady in adultery

Youre a bigot against muslim but you are right in synch with the ettorrists on freedom of speech and penalty modes

Are these the same Muslims that chop off heads and kill innocent people because they laugh at the cartoon of the prophet? and restrict the rights of women then demand that everyone respect their rights, "I don't thinks so scooter"
