The Champaign County Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner was last night, and it was great to see so many new faces, and to see again some Republicans I'd not seen for a while.
State Senator Bill Brady spoke, and Tom Kacich wrote a bit about it.

Bill Brady complained about businesses not wanting to establish themselves in the lousy Illinois business climate but he did not offer any specifics on what the problems are that drive away business nor did he offer any specifics about how he would fix the problems. I thought it was fairly bland stuff for some guy who wants to run for governor. He's a nice guy but Ain't there somebody else for Governor?
On the other hand Jason Barickman offered a very good talk on principles that was pretty inspiring. Thanks, Jason.
Got to meet Steve Sauerberg also. What a Jerk he is. Convinced me in less than 30 sec. to vote for his opponent.
Gordy,
I saw it on the link, but would it be possible for you to post the Local Chapter Republican Platform that was printed on the back of the program?
It certainly is worth the exposure.

It's on the Champaign County Republican website here.
Sorry for the edit while you were posting. My cat stepped on the delete button and deleted my initial statement.
Thanks Gordy, Safari doesn't allow me to link things.

Huh? Why not?
"Bill Brady complained about businesses not wanting to establish themselves in the lousy Illinois business climate but he did not offer any specifics on what the problems are that drive away business nor did he offer any specifics about how he would fix the problems."
How far along was Obama in his presidential campaign before he started getting into specifics? : )
Sounds like he's running on the don't raise taxes and create jobs instead. I'm intrigued.

If you are a good enough Republican to pay money to attend the annual fundraiser, and them claim that you're going to vote for Durbin, what does that say about you?

I think it says they don't like Sauerberg very much. Not all Republicans like all Republican candidates. <shrugs>

Most versions of Safari requires that you know HTML to create links, as it doesn't load the text editor and has you submit via simple form.

Oh, c'mon IP! If one supports Republican ideas and approaches, one doesn't then advance those ideas by voting for the second most liberal (behind only Obama) senator in the senate. That makes nearly as a Republican who would vote for Obama for President. Doesn't have anything to do with not liking all republican candidates, but simply exercising a little common sense. If he had said "I'll not vote for Sauerberg" that would be o.k. But to then say "that convinced me to vote for his opponent" is just plain silly (and you know it).

Why?
It's their vote. If the personality of the candidates is the most important factor for them, who are we to judge that as "silly?"
It's called cutting off your nose to spite your face, and as far back as I can remember, any action that fit that description was indeed deemed to be "silly".

Nah. It can also be construed as sending a message to the IL GOP to recruit better candidates for the Senate race. It's not for me to ever tell someone their reason for voting in an election is "silly."
If anything, it's pretty amazing that Sauerberg is unable to win the votes even of GOP donors, even after meeting them personally, don't you think?
There could always be a third party candidate running.
I must disagree with the speaker assessment. Sen. Brady gave a realistic talk about the business climate in Illinois. Interesting and the delivery was fine. Jason read his speech and therefore, it was much harder to follow for interest level. A so-so event for a presidential year. We need to rally the troops, not berate or chastise them if we want more volunteers.

IP: Bingo.
I actually was favourable to neutral on Sauerberg and would probably have voted for him until he came up and talked to me. Sometimes an Undervote (not voting) just doesn't carry the message or provide any real satisfaction.
Don't worry, I could never vote for B.O., especially not since he decided to discredit his pastor of umpteen years, a black man doing a good thing and speaking clearly and to the point. Which is something that BO never learned from him apparently. Sometimes the raw material is faulty. It's not Pastor Wright's fault BO turned out the way he did. I didnt like Barack Obama one bit when he was running for senate either and didnt vote for him then or ever.

Manic: We may need more and more 3rd party candidate voting until such a time as the IL GOP finds a way to get back in touch with the its core foundational principles and "Recruit better candidates".
Although Brady's talk was realistic for the recognition of the problem, there was no diagnosis and no treatment. Anyone can say we need lower taxes and get GOP agreement. More jobs is good and even the socialistas will agree with that. I didnt hear anything tangible about How taxes would be lowered, what social services would be cut, what hindrances would be alleviated to create jobs. I don't perceive perfunctory palliation with a plethora of platitudes to be much of a positive plan for promoting prosperity. All that rah-rah-rah b.s. doesnt translate into verbs. Verbs are something you do, as my boys tell me.
Whether Jason read his speech, recited it by heart, or extemporized it from notes on his cuff, it was a truly inspiring message. So sorry that you missed it. Maybe he could send you a hard copy if you ask him.
Barickman's speech is here.
Jason would have done it better if he read his speech in a Jeremiah Wright fashion! With references to IL Republican chickens coming home to roost!
Where did you guys get this scrawny kid from? Gordy would make a better chairman!
I read Jasons speech. The area that I disagree with is that I think the problem of the Illinois GOP is pretty much the same as the national GOP, we do not know what we stand for!

Thanks Arvid,
I was getting ready to admit to OE (Operator Error) as my reason that Safari would not do links. Thanks

OMG, Jason is now scrawny? I honestly do not think that IP is well qualified to be county chairman. If he can promise that he will not come to GOP functions severely intoxicated, maybe we'll let him. Until then, i vote for the dog on Family Guy!

Huh? Now I need a drink.
Too bad I missed this!
You say what needs to be said, and you're called scawny. If that's the worst thing to be said about JB, he's not doing to poorly.
Farney, im just joking about IP being a total drunk! Maybe just a partial!

I didn't know my Mom was an IP.com reader.
Gordy: Boggle!
