"Forefend" is used, yet again...

From George Will, in tonight's News-Gazette:

"Mere numbers?  Heaven forefend.  That is how people speak when numerical metrics--numbers of popular votes and delegates--are inconvenient."

I'm not sure if I disagree with Mr. Will's spelling, or the News-Gazette's; I usually spell it "forfend".

But I'm still tickled to see it getting some popular use!

According to both American Heritage and Random House, "forfend" is the principal spelling; "forefend" is the variant.

It is typecal for George Will to use the varient of the spellhing opshuns.  He does it because he is an elitist.  I saw him bowl once.  He bowled a 37.
