McGinty Remains On Ballot

This may be old news, but I didn't see either a post or a NG story on it:  the Illinois Supreme Court has declined to hear an appeal in the petition challenge court case involving Democratic County Board member Brendan McGinty, which means that he will remain on the ballot for November's election.

UPDATE:  I missed it - the NG story is here.  Sorry!

Well, there you go.

I figured I was way late on this, and I haven't checked their feed yet today.

As this subject has been hashed and rehashed, I am glad that McGinty will remain on the ballot.  His perserverance in wanting to do what is in the best interests of the citizens of Champaign County deserves to have the chance to continue.   Just my opinion.

I'm not sure whether the Supreme Court would have removed him from the ballot even if they'd heard the case and found against him.  It seems like the whole point of the petition process is to ensure that there's a reasonable amount of support for a candidate before s/he can be placed on the ballot.  Given that McGinty won the CB9 Dem primary by a wide margin, one could assume that he does indeed have some support.
