C-U on the Move

If you enjoy walking, tomorrow (Saturday) will be a fun opportunity to learn more about Champaign-Urbana in the 7.5 mile C-U on the Move Walk. Tom Kacich will host “a route designed to showcase some of Champaign-Urbana’s historic landmarks” (ok, so this isn’t historic Williamsburg but we do have many interesting sites).

It starts at 8 am at the Urbana Courthouse. If you aren’t up for the whole 7.5 miles, you could call a friend’s cell phone and join us at any point. There is a $ 5 donation that goes toward the Clock and Bell Tower fund (to rebuild a replica of the 1901 tower). It will also count for participants in the Moon Walk 2008.

Rain or shine.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to chat with you on the hike and, also, sorry that you didn't tough it out to the end of he line.  We all, save one, hopped the MTD for a ride from the Terminal back to th Courthouse.  It  really rained heavily at the end.  Ralph Langenheim

It wasn't a matter of toughing it out, Ralph. My 85 year old mom was sick in Rockford and we had a 3 hour trip to help her. I was also there for the rain. And what a downpour as we waited to see a break in the weather at the start. It was fun to talk to many of the participants like Urbana teacher Kay Grabow.

Thanks to Tom Kacich for the information about many homes and buildings on the walk. I enjoyed the Cole Hospital heist story (a robbery during a fancy party at the former private home). Several others provided information throughout. We really don't stop to think about the history and people who developed the area that brings the community alive.

Interesting you should bring up "robbery" again in the context of the clock tower.  Robbery certainly is what I think about every time I hear about the towering fiasco.  I think about some of our hysterical landmarx too, though.  It's strange how we have to keep hearing this shrill voice of the dental drill to remind us of how we are having our teeth painfully worked on.

I have a muscle disease but tried to go as  far as I could on the walk that day; I went a little over 2 miles which made my muscles horribly sore for a couple days, but I am thankful to have this done now on my 'bucket list' !!  (ie: the new movie about 2 older men doing all on their list of things to see and do before they "kick the bucket')  LOL!  Thank you ,Tom, for interesting facts, and thank you, MTD, for the free ride back to my car!!  Wow, was that ever appreciated!!  It was also nice to see several from the Champaign County Board on the walk.  This will remain a nice memory.
