This just looks dumb. I had no idea Calabrese had planned any announcement. Now he broadcasts that he has personal reasons such that he can't make the announcement, thereby catching my attention for the first and only time in a negative manner and making me wonder what horrible personal reason may be out there. Is anybody giving this kid advice on public relations?

How can you attack the guy for wanting to be with his sick mother? Jesus, that's low man.

If you hate your mother, vote for Naomi!

My comment was made before the information about his mother was posted.  Calabrese's initial announcment of cancellation should have included the reason.  It did not.

"Calabrese's initial announcment of cancellation should have included the reason."

The initial announcement said it was cancelled due to personal reasons, not public reasons.  I realize that political candidates sacrifice their privacy when they become a public figure, but do you have to know EVERYTHING?  Can't you just take his word for it that something personal happened which caused him to cancel and subsequently reschedule HIS announcement of HIS campaign?  I'm sure the press release specified personal reasons so there wouldn't be speculation that the cancellation had to do with the Chicago Democratic Machine challenging his candidacy.

So, how did the announcement go? Did it even take place?

The announcement was met with widespread media attention and it has the Democrats running scared that Naomi's seat is in jeopardy. Where have you been, 103rd Voter?

The announcement got coverage from 4 major media outlets, has anyone been watching the news?

the local GOP needs a good thrashing for encouraging Frankie to run.

There is no possible good outcome.  If he wins, then Frank Calabrese becomes our representative.  If she wins, then Naomi J. is our representative.  Both of these outcomes are undesirable.  Sadly it looks like Naomi is the lesser evil, not that Frankie is evil, but electing him to a state office is certainly bad enough.

It doesn't seem like that big a deal to me.  Frank doesn't seem like that much of a threat, but it'll probably be a learning experience for him and he'll get some name recognition out of it.

If Naomi wins then that leave's us were we are now with a voice in Springfield controlled by the Democratic leadership, rather then the needs of the district.
