County Policy Says No to Nursing Home Tax Increase

The Policy Committee tonight after long debate tabled the motion to put a property tax hike for the nursing home on the November ballot, effectively killing it.

I don't think this taxwill really be really dead until after this month's full board meeting.  It can still be brought forward to that.  Afterall, it was just a couple weeks ago that the News-Gazette ran an article that the tax proposal was dead, and then it subsequently still appeared on the policy committee agenda for tonight's meeting.

To Mark:

re: finances of CCNH I wonder if you got any traction to resolve the $400,000 contract spent on the consulting firm to pass a CON through the Health Facilities Planning Board.  Outrageous and possibly corrupt that a CON project with no added beds to the area, replacing an existing facility and uncomplicated financials cost that.

Is there any way to get an independent investigation. I can't believe Julia Reitz would allow any illegalities, but can she investigate when you say she endorsed the contract?

The point is we should clean up this matter, or even recoup if there was political dealing or some kind or wrongdoing.

Of course, that is not the main issue, namely, there is no way to drain us with even more taxes when the nursing home is currently unsustainable by medicare, state medicaid cutbacks and unpaid bills, and private pay and county spending.

Raising county taxes more? Insane.

NG article here.

There won't be a Champaign County Nursing Home tax subsidy proposal on the November ballot.

At the county's policy committee Wednesday night, the issue was tabled by a voice vote, meaning it won't be on the full board's agenda Aug. 21, which would have been the last board meeting before the deadline for approving a referendum proposal.

Look for this to resurface in time for the 2009 election cycle, per previously discussions on this topic.
