I'm just listening to a discussion of Sarah Palin's record as governor on NPR. While they find things to complain about (being a good governor by getting federal money for her state and giving oil dividends to the people), every discussion of Palin's record increases the accessibility of her experience in the minds of the voters. When you ask Obama supporters what he actually accomplished in the Senate they'll probably give you a blank stare or say something about authoring legislation (but there's no law named after him like McCain-Feingold they can name). Since accessibility is a mental proxy for quantity, it will be easy for people to conclude that Sarah has more experience than Obama. Even if they don't, at some point they'll notice that they're comparing the GOP VP to the top of the Democrat ticket.

Well, Governor Palin didn't take anything from you. Congress (your elected representatives) gave money to her state, and she used it in the most responsible way.
Here's a simple analogy for what happened:
Imagine that Grandma bought you an ugly sweater for Christmas using money from her pension. You didn't want the sweater, so you took it to the store and bought a iTunes giftcard instead.
According to your view, you stole an iTunes giftcard from your Grandma's pension.

There's no redistribution of wealth - the government gave the state of Alaska money, and the state used it. Palin didn't steal your paycheck and cut a check to every person in Alaska. You paid taxes, your elected representatives gave some of your tax dollars to Alaska, and Alaska used them.
Still feel like Palin stole money from you? Visit Alaska and take advantage of what your tax dollars bought you.

Now he has to differenciate his projected administration from the current to pick up much needed voters while still retaining votes of "W" supporters. Whoops. I think I meant tax cuts for the richest one percent. That reminds me, why doesn't McCain's economic plan include new tax cuts for the middle class?
Anyone?
It just occured to me that we've spent the better part of the entire summer discussing Obama's kid's school, Obama's pastor, Obama's peripheral ties to some guy who was in the Weather Underground, even Obama's use of a flag pin, but we've never discussed McCain's economic plan. Or his plan for Afghanistan. Or his plan to deal with the housing crisis. Or even his plan for health care.
I wonder why not. Does McCain have any plans for the top issues that are on American's minds? Who knows? I've certainly not heard Word One about any of it on this site.
We know McCain wants to drill in everyone's backyard. But what else do we know about McCain's plans for America, besides the fact that Obama's pastor's children's school doesn't require flag pins because it is only twelve blocks from Bill Ayers house?
At some point people have to vote for something, not just against the other guy. Democrats learned that lesson well in 2004. Republicans don't seem to get that yet.

The issue isn't whether or not they're being offshored, the issue is whether or not they're being outsourced. There are plenty of call centers in the US where the people answering your calls make about as much as retail and hospitality workers. I work in a call center, taking calls from other call center workers every day, and I hear the same scripts from Americans, Canadians, and Others. Time and time again, I can tell which departments spend the money to attract and retain good people, and which departments simply don't. Workers worth talking to tend to find employers who are willing to pay them what they're worth.

Well, I guess that automatically makes it completely unimportant and we should just ignore it, pretending that nothing happened.
What, exactly, was your point? Who claimed it to be "breaking news?" Why does that matter?
They have more recent videos at http://theuptake.org/ (which the Wired story links to, BTW).
Wayward I apologize, I thought You were posting this as just happening. I read the story, Protesters yelling "Against Capitalism" and throwing rocks, bags of urine and fecces at the police, no wonder they got their asses kicked.
Tax cuts are so unpopular that Obama, out campaigning today, was reassuring people that he's all for cutting their taxes, while claiming McCain won't.

I guess the good Senator wont be coming to CU after all.
The Daily Show calls out GOP hypocrisy
FYI IP. IlliniPundit loses some of its functionality when posting using Google Chrome.
You can still do the basics but you lose the formatting tools above a comment you are authoring... can't please everyone though.
Yes, it's been that way for a while with Safari, and Chrome uses the same rendering engine.
It's one of the things that I'd like to fix with a site upgrade, but I can't find time to do the actual upgrade. I'm hoping to get it done after the election.
So why was the server fallen today?
Just curious.
Is it just me, or do other people have nonstop problems with Citibank (credit card division)?
I use my card for the same purchases, over and over. My pattern of spending is virtually identical every week of the year. Yet my card is often interrupted over fraud concerns:
(indian accent) "We see that you made a purchase at (mispronounced business name), is that valid?"
me "You mean the same place I made a similar purchase the week before that and the week before that and the 200 weeks before that, for about the same amount?? YES, that is valid."
(indian accent) "Thank you for your patience. We want you to be happy."
me "Yeah, right."
(indian accent) "We see that you made a purchase at (mispronounced business name), is that valid?"
me: "You mean the same..."
Uggh. It's a good thing the call centers are in India or Indonesia or wherever. If they were in town, they'd have people bustin' in the doors and beating the people with sticks.
Citibank sucks.
Can't help but respond to that last post...

Why are You using Citibank if You hate the service??? Every bank in the world has credit cards, find another to use. I bank at a localy owned bank and if I have a problem I call and talk to the owner, belive it or not.
I call and talk to the owner, belive it or not
Hmmm, I'm going to go with 'not.' I'm thinking it's more like calling and screaming at the owner
I love Citibank credit card services.

You go ahead and continue to deal with Citi and their offshore call centers and yell and scream all you want at Abdul or Haji and see how far You get. If You don't like it get another card, or call Mommy & Daddy and have them hook you up with some other bank.
