Stuff I Like

I'm quite busy today, and there's really not much news that I feel like commenting upon, so I thought I'd share a random list of things that I really like right now:

  • Remember The Milk.  Integrated with the iPhone it's fantastic and indespensible for me.
  • The iPhone. Still the best phone I've ever owned, and it does so much else - email, calendar, contact, web, maps, GPS, feeds, games, music, movies, and now tasks (with Remember The Milk, above)
  • The Champaign Public Library.  I got my card right after the election, transferred most of my Amazon.com wish list to my Library book list, and have jumped heavily back into reading for pleasure.
  • Snow.  'Nuff said.
  • American Airlines.  When we flew for Thanksgiving, their staff bent over backwards to make travel with a 14-month-old as painless as possible.
  • The Amazing Race, Sunrise Earth and Survivorman.  I need to start planning a camping trip for the spring, or I'm going to go nuts.
  • Teaching a 14-month-old.  Anything and everything.
  • Vimeo.  Sharing HD video online is very cool.  Why doesn't YouTube offer this yet?
  • Illini basketball.

Have a great Tuesday!

The Good Lord gifted me with a personality that is not abrasive or confrontational and I really use it to intermingle with People and enjoy.....People. I enjoy conversations, sharing ideas, hearing ideas, seeing others react with others. It keeps me young and keeps my mind fresh. People of all walks of life have something that is interesting and there is not a day that passes, that being in contact with others does not make me a better person.

I also love animals, all animals. Mother Nature can really cook.

A book to add to your list IP.  I'm reading it and it is great.. It is non-fiction like you like, but has an amazing narrative.

Quick list:

Road Trips (especially where I can just keep driving until I hit the ocean):

Desolation roads:

Calling mom from unusual locations out of the blue, like the top of the sears tower, fort sumter, or the top of the hoover dam:

Rats!

Movies... good movies, horrible yet great movies, stupid movies, smart movies... movieholic.

Non-Fiction... especially historical non-fiction and even text books on odd ball crap.

Well broken-in combat boots (especially when they're standing where some famous yahoo stood and did something significant, like where Grant and Lee met):

Photoshop... and goats... and the Cubs... *grumble*

And Chuck:

Gordy,

As you teach your young son everything you can, remember always patience (my shortcoming) and that every single day gets better and better.

Remember the Milk is $25.00 a year.

Pretty pricey. That will buy a lot of scratch pads.

Twins!

Or maybe you just enjoy giving Arvid quotes for his signature?

No that is my job, I can make Arvid smile once in a while also. :)

Dern... I forgot about twins.

I want to nibble on those twins.

Gordy, no love for Man vs. Wild?

Gordy, no love for Man vs. Wild?

Ahh, come on - a person actually surviving, on his own, hauling his own camera/audio equipment and avoiding dangerous situation is infinitely better than a guy running around with a camera crew, staying in base camps, staging situations, etc.

"Gordy, no love for Man vs. Wild?"

I DVR it, but it's not as good as Survivorman.  Too much staging, too much doing dangerous things just for the sake of doing them.

It's official: Gordy has hit Middle Age.

:-)

Too much staging, too much doing dangerous things just for the sake of doing them.

Agreed - it's like having Steve Irwin running around and sleeping in a tent. So much of Grylls's stuff is, "now normally, you wouldn't want to fall down this waterfall - you can easily die or sustain life-threatening injuries. But I'm going to do it because it's better TV than the stunts on Fear Factor."

Come to think of it, Grylls should put together a special with Steve-O and Johnny Knoxville. As long as you're showing and stating what not to do to survive, it's educational, right?

Once you hit 50 everything you do is dangerous and could led to injury of course that doesn't stop you from doing things that could get you killed trying and stay in "shape".
