Wow.  Peggy has always been one of my guilty pleasures, and she sure doesn't disappoint here.  Her treatment of Palin reminds me of the ancient proscriptions for vampires and such: cut off their heads and fill their mouths with salt/lead/silver before sewing them shut.  Gotta make sure they don't come back, ya know?

Ms Noonan's column could be read as at least an intellectual endorsement of Obama--who seems to have most of the qualities Noonan correctly finds lacking in Palin

Wow.  That's a brutal dismantling of Palin.

Here Dr. Van Helsing, you hold the stake. Ms. Noonan will wield the hammer!

Brutal - but right on the mark I think.

For either major party to nominate someone who makes Dan Quayle look like a brilliant statesman, is or should be troubling.

I remember when delegates to the GOP convention returned and were glowing in their praise of Palin when just a few days earlier many of them, like most of us not so attuned to politics, had never even heard of her.  That is the kind of "group think"  that reinforces my reluctance to ever again invest my allegiance to a political party.

"...brutal dismantling..."

Yes it was, and because of this I felt a strong obligation to search for vulnerabilities in Noonan's assessment.  The search was unsuccessful.
